Division of Radiological Emergency Preparedness

The St. Lucie County Division of Radiological staff are trained in all aspects of planning, training, exercising and responding to an incident involving radiological materials.

The Division of Radiological works closely with Florida Power and Light (FP&L), the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Florida Division of Emergency Management, Florida Bureau of Radiation Control and Martin, Palm Beach, Indian River and Brevard Counties to ensure that our response plan to an emergency at the nuclear power plant is comprehensive and beyond all Federal guidelines. The plan was developed and is maintained to ensure that the health and safety of our residents is our highest priority.

Every year St. Lucie County’s emergency response plan to radiological emergencies is reviewed and approved by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to ensure and meet all exceeded criteria. The Division of Radiological participates in quarterly exercises with FP&L to validate our plans. Every 2 years our exercise is evaluated by FEMA.
