Volunteer Title: Stormwater Steward
Purpose of position: Aiding in improving water quality and preventing trash and debris from entering waterways. Stormwater DOES NOT get diverted to water treatment facilities. Stormwater along with car oils, fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, pet waste, trash, and other debris go directly into waterways, so we need your help!
Required/desired qualifications: Physically capable of walking up to 2 miles while carrying supplies. Good sense of direction and map skills.
Task and duties: Monitor storm drains of nearby neighborhoods and remove any debris, trash, or yard clippings from around the storm drain. Pick up trash along route.
Training requirements: New Volunteer Orientation
Monitoring: Check in regularly with Community Outreach Coordinator via email and tracking observations
Time Commitment: 2-6 hours weekly
Time frame: Ongoing
Scope of assignment: Check in with staff, gloves, bags, and/or pickers are provided. Tracking times and places of monitoring, debris removal and noting problem areas
