Through the Eyes of Roosevelt                                                  Wednesday, May 1                         6:30-8pm

Port St. Lucie Community Center, 2195 SE Airoso Blvd, Port St. Lucie

President Franklin D. Roosevelt led the country at one of the most challenging and defining times in our history, leading us through the Great Depression followed by World War II. His presidency offers an excellent message on the essential role of government in a great society. Although controversial at the time, his programs were highly successful and carried Americans through difficult times. The Works Progress Administration included construction projects and the collection of cultural stories and dialects still enjoyed today. In clever fashion, historian David Schmidt inspires the audience to consider the ethic of public service that Roosevelt awakened.

St. Lucie Water Champions 101 Training               Saturday, May 18                                             9am-3:30pm

Join the Oxbow Eco-Center, local scientists, and our Water Champions partners to chart a course to a healthier Indian River Lagoon. Our local waterways are significant both environmentally and economically.  They provide so much in the way of jobs, recreation, and quality of life. But these fragile systems need us to be the best stewards we can!

The St. Lucie Water Champions 101 course is a great place to begin.  In this course, participants will experience presentations on the history and ecology of our wetlands and waterways, learn about what local governments and agencies are doing to improve the health of these systems, and how each of us can play a part in improving water quality and creating a bright future for the IRL and its tributaries. The St. Lucie Water Champions 101 course is open to all (ages 13+).  Join us and become a "champion" for clean water.  This course is FREE, but space is limited.  Register at www.oxboweco.com.
