Since 1999, St. Lucie County grant writers have pursued grant funding from outside agencies. Without this outside grant revenue, some county projects would have been unattainable. The Board of County Commissioners' Innovation and Performance Management Division has secured money for development of boat ramps, parks, sidewalks, roads, the emergency operations center, the special needs shelter, the port, energy-efficiency programs and the acquisition of environmentally sensitive lands. Other departments within the county seek out and rely on grant dollars to provide services to the public. More than $16 million in state and federal projects benefited residents throughout St. Lucie County fiscal year ended Sept. 30, 2018.
