Online Video of Talk on New Book by Zora Neale Hurston

Marvin E. Hobson, Assistant Professor at Indian River State College, spoke on June 30th of this year at the Hurston Branch about Barracoon: The Story of the Last "Black Cargo," Zora Neale Hurston's recently published story of Cudjo Lewis, a survivor of the transatlantic slave trade. Professor Hobson's lecture can be viewed on YouTube here.

Published by Harper Collins, this work from the author of the American classic Their Eyes Were Watching God features a foreword from Pulitzer Prize-winning author Alice Walker. The story brilliantly illuminates the horror and injustices of slavery as it tells the true story of one of the last-known survivors of the Atlantic slave trade—abducted from Africa on the last "Black Cargo" ship to arrive in the United States.
