Please note:

St. Lucie County’s Environmental Resources Department (ERD) is committed to continuing to process permits and development applications as quickly as possible.  However, due to the recent COVID-19 virus and CDC guidance to practice social distancing, we are requesting that all completed applications* be submitted in one of the following ways:

The Environmental Regulations and Land Management Division implement the County’s land development environmental regulations and actively manage over 11,000 acres of environmentally sensitive lands.

Environmental Regulations & Permits

St. Lucie County’s environmental regulations are intended to protect the County’s valuable natural resources, sensitive habitats and wildlife and to enhance the quality of life for its citizens. These regulations are found in the County’s Comprehensive Plan and in Chapters 6 and 7 of the Land Development Code (Municode). Specifically, the Environmental Regulations Division implements environmental regulations pertaining to the following:

Vegetation Removal (trees, native vegetation, exotics)
Tree Replacement (Mitigation)
Dune Vegetation Trimming
Wetlands and Buffers
Coastal Zones & Shorelines
Listed Species Protection

The Environmental Regulations Division works closely with other County departments involved in development review such as Public Works, the County Engineer, Planning and Development Services, the Building Division and Code Enforcement. We also work closely with other federal and state agencies such as the South Florida Water Management District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Department and Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission.
