Howard Tipton became County Administrator of St. Lucie County in November of 2014, having now served more than 40 years in four different Florida counties.  His previous assignments have included Deputy County Administrator for Orange County (Orlando), President/COO for a golf course development company, Chief Administrative Officer for the Orange County Clerk of Courts, and most recently County Manager for Brevard County.  He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from James Madison University, a Masters of Public Administration from the University of Central Florida and completed the program for senior executives in state and local government at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government.

The son of a long time Florida City Manager and brother to the guru of training for municipal leaders for the Florida League of Cities, Howard has served in a number of leadership capacities for the American Society for Public Administration, as well as the Florida Association of Counties County Manager Board of Directors, and the University of Central Florida’s advisory board for the School of Public Administration as well as the College of Health and Public Affairs.  He currently serves as the chair for the United Way of St. Lucie County, the Economic Development Council Board of Directors of St. Lucie County, and as a member for the Allegany Franciscan Ministries Council for the Common Good.

He has been married to Marion for more than 35 years (God bless her) and they have two grown children.
