Hazardous Waste is characterized by being either Corrosive, Flammable, Reactive, or Toxic.

Residents of St. Lucie County may bring acceptable household hazardous waste to the Solid Waste Baling & Recycling Facility for proper disposal. Most household hazardous waste is FREE of charge, except for cylinder tanks. Businesses* and residents with commercially generated hazardous waste must contact a licensed hazardous waste handler for disposal.

Hazardous products may have CAUTION, CORROSIVE, DANGER, FLAMMABLE, POISON, or TOXIC on the label. Do not put unused hazardous products in your garbage or recycling carts or pour them into a drain or on the ground. When these products are disposed of improperly, they can cause injury to sanitation workers, pollute our air and water, or harm pets, wildlife, and plant life.

Call the Illicit Discharge Hotline at 772-462-1297 to report illicit discharge into stormwater systems in the unincorporated areas of St. Lucie County. Examples of illicit discharge include household chemicals, automotive fluids, trash, garbage, litter, chlorinated pool water, sewage, and sand or sediment from severe erosion.
