If your property attaches to a county-maintained roadway, then you must apply for a driveway permit. If you want to add a new driveway connection at your property or to upgrade your existing driveway, you must have a driveway permit before any work can begin.

The County Construction Inspector will come to your property to determine at what depth the culvert pipe (if needed) is to be placed and what length and size your pipe will need to be. The length of the culvert pipe needed for your driveway is determined, in part, by the width of the driveway you are requesting.

The Driveway Inspector will perform a pre-pour inspection of all formwork and a final inspection to see that all permit conditions are met.

No. Only high-density polyethylene pipe, corrugated metal pipe or concrete pipe is allowed in the County right-of-way. Mitered ends are required for whichever is used.

The permit is good for six months from the date of issuance.

The property owner may do his or her work as an "owner builder" without hiring a contractor. If the property owner hires a contractor, they must be a licensed and insured contractor to work within the County right-of-way; this protects everyone involved.

Driveways serve to provide access to your home. The individual owner is responsible for the repair and/or replacement of the driveway and culvert pipe. If your culvert pipe is failing, you could be blocking drainage and potentially affecting your neighbors. If your driveway is failing, it could be an indication of a larger problem that will need to be addressed.
