Keeping traffic signals operational following a hurricane
The Traffic Section of the Road and Bridge Division has been upgrading signals at 13 intersections with backup batteries this year. Robert Andrejcak, Traffic Operations Superintendent, says this will help keep them operational following an outage.

New sidewalk expands access along Walton Road
Approximately 5,000 feet of 10-feet to 12-feet-wide multi-use sidewalk were installed in the area. Drainage improvements were also implemented along the walkway.

Public Announcement: North 41st Street Closure (May 11-15, 2026)
A portion of North 41 Street, between North 40th Street and Avenue B, will be closed between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. from May 11, 2026, through May 15, 2026, so a deteriorated drainage culvert pipe may be replaced. Local residential access to homes will be maintained during this time.

Public Announcement: Seagrape Drive Closure (May 18-22, 2026)
A portion of Seagrape Drive, between Easy Street and Bartow Street, will be closed between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. from May 18, 2026, through May 22, 2026, so a deteriorated culvert pipe may be replaced.

Public learns about Tilton Road Drainage Improvement Project
The first phase of this project was completed in 2024 and included construction of new drainage structures as well as the grading of roadside drainage swales.

Preparing County infrastructure for hurricane season
St. Lucie County Public Works utilizes in-house staff as well as contractors to inspect and monitor critical infrastructure. Year-round efforts include dive inspections of large critical culverts, clearing heavy vegetation in canals, and bridge inspections, to name a few.

St. Lucie empowered to seek federal funds for sidewalk projects
In addition to any potential federal funding, the 2018 voter-approved half-cent sales tax initiative supports a variety of infrastructure projects, including the construction of new sidewalks.

Public Announcement: 33rd Street Lane Closure (Fort Pierce Utilities)
The northbound lane of 33rd Street, at the intersection of Okeechobee Road in Fort Pierce, is scheduled to close temporarily beginning Monday, April 13, 2026, so that Fort Pierce Utilities can work on underground utilities.

Public Announcement: Lakewood Park Stormwater Improvements Update
St. Lucie County, with funding support from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), plans to replace the existing corrugated metal culvert with concrete box culverts and the fixed weir structure with an operable gate structure at site Control Structure #3.

St. Lucie County reducing nitrogen, phosphorus levels in local water bodies
Excess nutrients like phosphorus and nitrogen enter the St. Lucie River and Indian River Lagoon via agricultural runoff, industrial discharges, as well as runoff from residential areas around the county. Left unchecked, they can lead to algae and blue-green algae blooms within those systems.

Roadway and stormwater improvements, culvert repairs, more benefit from half-cent funding initiative
After the 2018 voter-approved half-cent infrastructure tax was passed, the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) officially established ISCOC to serve in a supervisory and advisory role to the BOCC.

Specialized vehicle logging roadway conditions
Following up on the initial survey in 2023 and 2024 of 200 miles of arterial and collector roads, Infrastructure Management Services (IMS) is back to look at the remaining 215 miles of County-owned paved local roads.
