911 Communications
911 Communications is the primary Public Safety Answering Point of St. Lucie County which means all 911 calls for Law Enforcement and Fire/Rescue for the entire county are received here! Public Safety Communications Officers assess the incoming calls to determine if Law Enforcement or Fire/Rescue is needed. If Fire/Rescue is needed, the caller is transferred in house to certified Fire District Telecommunicators employed by the St. Lucie Fire District who provide Emergency Medical Dispatching and assign their equipment accordingly. Law Enforcement dispatching is provided to the Fort Pierce Police Department, Port St. Lucie Police Department, and St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office.
The 911 Communications employees are certified through the Association of Professional Communications Officers and Florida Department of Law Enforcement. They also retain a certification through the Florida Department of Health as a 911 Emergency Dispatcher. Over 488,000 calls for service are dispatched annually. The staff operates on a rotating shift work schedule so that these lines are manned 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year.
