Report contractor fraud directly to local law enforcement.
Civil complaints can be reported to the State Attorney General's Office by visiting the Office of the Attorney General site.

Cash Only / Immediate Payment
- Won't accept check or credit
- Requests check made to them personally - not to a business name; or "off the books" to save money
Large Down Payments
- Requires money up front for materials
- Demands large amount of money before any work is performed
Recycled Materials
- Offers discounts to use materials remaining from another job, but only if you commit on the spot
What YOU Can Do
Verify the Contractor's License
- Ensure the contractor has an "active" license BEFORE signing a contract
- Contact St. Lucie County
Obtain At Least Three (3) Bids
- Compare costs and scope of work
Insist on a Written Contract
- Ensure all project details, materials, and terms are documented
Pay with Check or Credit Card
- Always get a receipt and make checks payable to the business/company you hired
- Never pay with cash
