Hackberry Hammock

A mown grass trail runs between dense hammock edges toward a distant treeline

A 114-acre hammock reached on foot through the Paleo Hammock trail system.

Hackberry Hammock is a 114-acre site that is only accessible through the Paleo Hammock trail system. This site is also connected to other conservation areas to explore.

The preserve is one of three that make up the Steven J. Fousek Preserve, a 494-acre complex it shares with Paleo Hammock and Teague Hammock.

Trail and Habitat

Trail
Advanced. Experience a self-guided interpretive trail that spans one mile.
Habitat
Hydric hammock, wet prairie, prairie hammock, basin swamp and depression marsh.
Commonly seen wildlife
Alligators, wood stork, white ibis. County trail cameras have also photographed bobcat, otter and coyote here.

This site is only accessible through the Paleo Hammock trail system, and parking for this preserve is at Paleo Hammock, 8551 Carlton Road, Port St. Lucie, FL 34987.

During the rainy season, many of the trails may become flooded.
