The Property Acquisition Department provides a wide range of services for the Board of County Commissioners, which include the negotiation and acquisition of real property, permanent and temporary easements for roadway widening, drainage projects and abandonments of Plats, right-of-way, utility & drainage easements. They also negotiate and acquire land approved under the St. Lucie County Environmentally Significant Land program and are responsible for the acquisition needs of the County's Municipal Services Benefit Unit projects.

An inventory of all County-owned real property, including buildings, parks, vacant land, and county roads, is maintained by the Property Acquisition Department. They provide information to many of the county's departments, the public, professional developers and other local and state government agencies. The Property Acquisition Department also reviews site plans and subdivision plans to ensure adequate right-of-way is present, noting any encroachments on county property.
