Commissioner Jamie Lee Fowler of St. Lucie County District 4 is offering High School Students of St. Lucie County and/or current members of the St. Lucie County 4-H county council an opportunity to shadow her and witness high-level briefings with county officials, provide an overview of the county government's infrastructure, and help educate, empower, and inspire the youth and future leaders of St. Lucie County.

Inspiring Tomorrow's Leaders!

1. Outline

The Shadow the Commissioner Program is focused on providing high school students of St. Lucie County and/or current members of the St. Lucie County 4-H county council an opportunity to experience a day in the life of a county commissioner.
The program introduces students and 4-H county council members to the inner workings of local government, which includes:
- Attending high-level briefings.
- Meeting with county departmental leaders.
- An overview of projects, proclamations, resolutions, and various agenda items set for upcoming board meetings.
- Engaging in one-on-one discussions with the Commissioner.
The program runs from January through November. Note: Due to the holiday break, the program does not run during December.
Students and 4-H county council members must apply as outlined below in paragraph 3., to participate in the program.
A total of 16 students and/or 4-H county council members (collectively) are selected to participate in the program throughout the calendar year.

2. Program Eligibility

The following is an outline of eligibility requirements:
- A registered High School Student in the St. Lucie County Public School system. All grade levels, freshmen through seniors, may participate.
  -OR-
- An active St. Lucie County 4-H county council member, ages 12 to 18, may participate.
- Have parental/guardian approval (See paragraph 3.a. bullet 2 for details).
- Homeschooled students are eligible for the program but must be residents of St. Lucie County and provide proof of enrollment.

3. Program Application Process

Students and St. Lucie County 4-H county council members interested in participating in the program are required to:
- Submit a completed application form, which can be found at the "Shadow the Commissioner Application" page.
- All applicants are verified to be either registered St. Lucie County students and/or active county council members of the St. Lucie County 4-H youth program with the assistance of the Office of the Superintendent of the St. Lucie County Public Schools and/or the UF/IFAS St. Lucie County Extension Office.
- Applications are personally reviewed and approved by Commissioner Jamie Lee Fowler of St. Lucie County, Board of County Commissioners, District 4.
- Approved applicants are selected on a first-come basis.
- A total of 16 students and/or 4-H county council members (collectively) are selected annually for the program and will receive official notice via email.
- All applications received after the approved 16 are selected will be maintained and considered for future availability and/or the following calendar year. Note: An email will be sent advising the applicant of receipt and that their participation is in a standby status.
