The purpose of the Opioid Abatement Funding Advisory (OAFA) Board is to study and analyze data related to the opioid epidemic and abatement programming in St. Lucie County; to determine funding, programs, services, and location priorities for the upcoming year; to review the outcome of programs and services funded by its recommendations; and to present recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) annually for approval.

On April 23, 2024, the BOCC adopted Resolution No. 24-081 providing its support to participate in a unified plan for the allocation and use of opioid settlement proceeds to address opioid-related impacts within the county. On December 14, 2021, an Interlocal Agreement Governing Use of St. Lucie County Regional Opioid Settlement Funds No. C21-12-868 was entered into by St. Lucie County, the City of Port St. Lucie, the City of Fort Pierce, and the St. Lucie County Fire District.

The Opioid Abatement Funding Advisory Board shall consist of the following members appointed for two-year terms:

1. One member appointed by the City of Port St. Lucie;
2. One member appointed by the City of Fort Pierce;
3. One member appointed by the St. Lucie County Fire District;
4. One member appointed by the St. Lucie Sheriff' s Office;
5. The Public Defender for the 19th Judicial Circuit or designee;
6. One member appointed by Southeast Florida Behavioral Health Network,
Inc.
7. One member nominated by the County Administrator and appointed by the
Board of County Commissioners to represent the hospitals in St. Lucie
County.
8. One member nominated by the County Administrator and appointed by the
Board of County Commissioners to represent the mental health community
with expertise in public health and addiction.
9. One county commissioner appointed by the Board of County Commissioners
Chair.
