St. Lucie County Offers Code Lien Amnesty Program June 1 – 30

Post Date:05/10/2019 7:35 AM

For the third year consecutive year, St. Lucie County is once again offering its Code Lien Amnesty program as an incentive to all property owners in the unincorporated area with liens against their property because of outstanding code violations.

From June 1 through June 30, any business or property owner with outstanding code enforcement liens that brings their property into compliance with St. Lucie County Codes and Ordinances will have their liens reduced to 10 percent of the outstanding lien.

This program was designed to reduce the backlog of outstanding code liens and bring properties into compliance. Since the program started in 2017, 80 participants were able to have liens removed from their property by only paying 10 percent of their lien. Because of this program, the county collected $47,960.84. This reduced amount allowed the county to remove $479,608.47 off the original balance of outstanding liens.

In order to be eligible for the Lien Amnesty Program, the entire property must be in compliance with all county Codes and Ordinances and property owners shall not have any active code enforcement violations on any other properties owned in the unincorporated areas of St. Lucie County. All properties applying for amnesty will be inspected to confirm there are no code violations. Upon approved inspection, the reduced lien (10 percent of original lien) must be paid within 30 days.

Properties with outstanding code liens are being mailed information about this program, along with applications. However, additional information and the application to apply for this program can be found online at http://www.stlucieco.gov/amnesty
