St. Lucie County's Communications Division is always looking for ways to reach residents and visitors, whether it is through our websites, government access channel (SLCTV Comcast 28 / U-Verse 99), social media, mobile apps or traditional media outlets such as newspapers and television stations.

Kilmer Library Announces 2019 Selections for Thursday Evening and Great Expectations Books Groups

The Susan Broom Kilmer Branch Library has released its novels for the 2019 Thursday Evening Book Discussion Group and Great Expectations Book Group.

The Thursday Evening Group meets on the first Thursday of each month (except July) at 6 p.m. and are open to everyone.

Selections for 2019 include:

  • Jan. 3 – “How to Stop Time” by Matt Haig
  • Feb. 7 – “Pachinko” by Min Jin Lee
  • March 7 – “Salvage the Bones” by Jesmyn Ward
  • April 4 – “Charming Billy” by Alice McDermott
  • May 2 – “The Supremes at Earl’s All - You - Can – Eat” by Edward Kelsey Moore
  • June 6 – “A Tree Grows in Brooklyn” by Betty Smith
  • July 11 – “Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet” by Jamie Ford
  • Aug. 1 – “Americanah” by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
  • Sept. 5 – “Inside the O’Briens” by Lisa Genova
  • Oct. 3 – “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time” by Mark Haddon
  • Nov. 7 – “The Muralist” by B.A. Shapiro
  • Dec. 5 – “An American Marriage” by Tayari Jones

The Great Expectation Book Group meets on the third Thursday of each month at 10 a.m. and are open to everyone.

  • Feb. 21 – “Barracoon” by Zora Neale Hurston
  • March 21 – “The Line Becomes a River” by Francisco Cantú

  • June 20 – “Only Child” by Rhiannon Navin
  • July 18 – “The Immortalists” by Chloe Benjamin
  • Aug. 15 – “The Liars’ Club” by Mary Karr
  • Sept. 19 – “Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption” by Bryan Stevenson
  • Oct. 17 – “American Dervish” by Ayad Akhtar
  • Nov. 21 – “Becoming Nicole: The Transformation of an American Family” by Amy Ellis Nutt
  • Dec. 19 – “The German Girl” by Armando Lucas Correa

A limited number of Library copies of each selection are available for checkout on a first-come, first-served basis. All selections are in print and most are available in paperback. Many are also available as e-book purchases.
