St. Lucie County's Communications Division is always looking for ways to reach residents and visitors, whether it is through our websites, government access channel (SLCTV Comcast 28 / U-Verse 99), social media, mobile apps or traditional media outlets such as newspapers and television stations.

Winners Announced for 2017 Florida Natural Legacy Juried Photo Contest

Results of the Florida’s Natural Legacy juried photography competition were announced on Friday, March 17 at a reception at the Savannas Preserve State Park. Forty six photographers from throughout Florida submitted 163 photos of native species of animals, plants and art in nature.  This is the third year the Florida Master Naturalists have held this contest with the goal of educating photographers and the public about Florida’s native species.  Paul Milette, Savannas Preserve Park Ranger, Mary White, President of the St. Lucie Chapter Florida Master Naturalists and award-winning nature photographer Bobby Van Mierop from St. Augustine juried contest entries.  Van Mierop was last year’s Fauna First Place winner.  Special category awards for photos taken within the boundaries of Savannas Preserve State Park were also bestowed. 

The following photographers received awards:

The photos will remain on display at the Savannas Preserve State Park, 2541 SE Walton Road, Port St. Lucie, through April 7 from 9am- 4pm Thursday through Monday in the education building.  The Florida Master Naturalist Program in St. Lucie County is a collaborative effort of the UF/IFAS St. Lucie County Extension, St. Lucie County Environmental Resources Department and other partner agencies.  As Master Naturalists, our mission is to act as stewards for our environment, protecting what is critical to the survival of all species including our own. Our mission is to propagate this awareness through the use of research-based information and through teaching events, nature walks, and community activities. Master Naturalists will also engage with others who are striving to protect and nurture our natural resources.
