Joint Meeting: City of PSL & St. Lucie County

 

The County Commission and the Port St. Lucie City Council convened for a full day of open and productive dialogue focused on shared priorities, long-term planning, and strengthening intergovernmental relationships. These discussions are essential to ensuring coordinated efforts, thoughtful decision-making, and effective service to our residents. Continued collaboration between the County and City will remain a priority as we work together to plan for the future of our community.

State of the College Luncheon

Attended the State of the College Luncheon at Indian River State College and left feeling incredibly encouraged about the future of education in our community.

The Promise Program continues to make a lasting impact by providing tuition-free opportunities for local students. It’s initiatives like this that open doors, create pathways, and invest directly in the future of the Treasure Coast.

 

 

Read for the Record - SLC Education Foundation

 

Always a pleasure to give back as much time as I can in a classroom. Grateful for the opportunity to visit River‘s Edge Elementary School with the St. Lucie County Education Foundation for Read for the Record. Spending time reading to preschoolers is always such a meaningful highlight.

Celebrating MLK Day

 

It was an honor to attend the Martin Luther King Jr. Parade and celebrate a legacy rooted in service, unity, and hope. Dr. King’s enduring vision reminds us to lead with compassion and work together for the greater good of our community.

2026 Legislative Days

I recently traveled to Tallahassee for the 2026 Legislative Days at the Florida Capitol, an important opportunity to advocate for the needs and priorities of St. Lucie County. It is always valuable to meet face-to-face with our state representatives and senators to discuss key issues that impact our community’s growth, infrastructure, and quality of life. I was proud to join partners from the Martin County Chamber of Commerce and the Florida Association of Counties as we worked together to promote policies that will help our region and St. Lucie County continue to flourish.

 

 

 

 

Leap into Learning: Oxbow Eco-Center & Preserve

 

Had a great morning at the Oxbow Eco-Center celebrating the opening of the new Palmetto Pavilion. Visitors enjoyed activities highlighting Oxbow’s programs, including mangrove habitat restoration, exploring macroinvertebrates, and learning more about the incredible natural resources in our community. With more than 11,000 visitors each year, Oxbow continues to play an important role in environmental education and conservation.

St Lucie Woods Steering Committee

 

The Steering Committee for the St. Lucie Woods Preserve recently met to continue discussions on this exciting sensory-friendly nature preserve initiative. The project is a collaborative effort between the Treasure Coast Regional Planning Council and St. Lucie County’s Environmental Resources Department, focused on creating a more inclusive outdoor experience for individuals of all abilities. I have been proud to help bring together a steering committee of dedicated professionals and parents who share a passion for developing an accessible and welcoming natural space for families throughout our community.

Mosquito Control Tour

Had the wonderful opportunity to tour our Mosquito Control compound/headquarters, and it was such an engaging experience. I learned about the many different species of mosquitoes, the science behind controlling their population, and the important work being done every day to keep our residents safe from mosquito-borne diseases.

From looking through microscopes to seeing how mosquito traps collect and track data using advanced technology, it was impressive to witness the level of precision and dedication involved in this operation. The staff was extremely welcoming, knowledgeable, and passionate about protecting our community.

With our local bill currently in Tallahassee to expand the Mosquito Control District for the benefit of our residents, this tour was especially timely and relevant. I am grateful for the hard work of this team and their continued commitment to public health and safety.

Minor League Facility Groundbreaking

 

Excited that I got to be a part of the groundbreaking for the new Player Development Complex with the New York Mets right here in Port St. Lucie!

This state-of-the-art facility will feature a 7,000 sq. ft. weight room, 5,000 sq. ft. locker room, 14,000 sq. ft. batting cage, 1,300 sq. ft. training room, and a 20,000 sq. ft. turf field. What an incredible investment in player development and our community.

And the best part? This project is being built with no tax dollars.

ARC of the Treasure Coast

 

It was a pleasure recently touring The Arc of the Treasure Coast and seeing firsthand the incredible impact they have on individuals and families throughout our community.

I had the opportunity to meet with Keith W. Muniz, President and CEO; Danielle Sexton-Wills, Chief Operating Officer; Alberto Suarez, Director of Facilities and Transportation; Jennifer Rooks, Director of the Therapeutic Intervention Program TIP Center; and Anastatia McIntosh, Director of Day Programs. Their leadership and dedication are evident in everything they do.

The Arc supports nearly 1,000 individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities and their families each year. They operate 16 community-based homes, two Adult Day Programs, two Afterschool and Summer Camp programs for youth, and seven employment programs, including two Project SEARCH sites. They also manage the I-95 rest stops in Martin and St. Lucie Counties and operate Alice’s Restaurant and Catering.

With 250 professionals and paraprofessionals, The Arc provides approximately 145,000 meals annually and facilitates more than 130,000 one-way trips to work, school, medical appointments, and other essential destinations using a fleet of 54 vehicles.

I am grateful for the work they do every day to empower individuals and strengthen our community.

Mets Spring Training Opening Day!

Baseball season is back, and there’s nothing like Opening Day in St. Lucie County.

I was proud to join my fellow County Commissioners and Sheriff Del Toro for the ceremony as we welcomed another exciting Spring Training season.

Hosting the Mets continues to bring incredible energy and national attention to our community, and it’s something we’re truly proud of.

 

 

H.Y.P.E. Youth

Connecting with the next generation of community leaders is always inspiring. I had the pleasure of speaking with students from H.Y.P.E. (Helping Youth Pursue Excellence), a youth coalition of middle and high school students in St. Lucie County supported by the Children’s Services Council Roundtable. H.Y.P.E. focuses on youth advocacy and civic engagement, encouraging students to learn about local issues and become active participants in their community. During our conversation, students shared concerns about pollution and littering in our county and asked thoughtful questions about how local government works to address these challenges. I was truly encouraged by their passion and commitment to making a positive impact in St. Lucie County.

 

 

Night to Shine

Treasure Coast Night to Shine was once again a truly fantastic evening and without a doubt my favorite event to attend each year. If you have never experienced it, be sure to mark your calendar now for February 12, 2027. You will not want to miss it.

Different abilities, same beautiful hearts. Watching everyone dance, smile, and connect was pure joy. The love, confidence, and happiness in the room are simply unmatched. Evenings like this fill my heart and remind me why our community is so special. Already counting down to next year

Treasure Coast School for Autism

I had the wonderful opportunity to tour the Palm Beach School for Autism, and I’m so grateful to Ann Eisenberg for taking the time to show us around and share the incredible work being done there. I was also glad to be joined by my dear friend, Allison DeRocher, Speech Language Pathologist and owner of Sunshine Therapies.

This dedicated non-profit charter school provides innovative education and behavioral support that empowers students with autism to reach their fullest potential. Seeing firsthand the individualized programs, structured learning environments, and commitment to helping students thrive academically and socially was truly inspiring.

We cannot wait to see what the Treasure Coast School for Autism will bring to St. Lucie County. This is an exciting step forward for families in our community, and I look forward to the positive impact it will have for years to come.

 

 

Celebration Under the Stars

The Celebration Under the Stars, hosted by Graceway Village, brought together local leaders and community members for a wonderful evening supporting programs that provide food, clothing, education, and hope to those in our community.

 

 

 

Employee Spotlight

 

This month’s Employee Spotlight recognizes Patrick Dayan, Director of St. Lucie County’s Public Works Department. Patrick is proud of the incredible team that makes up Public Works and believes the department’s success comes from strong collaboration across its many divisions. By fostering a culture where each team supports and complements one another, the department has been able to accomplish more than ever before. From implementing the voter-approved sales tax project list to investing American Rescue Plan funds into water quality initiatives and planning for the future through master plans and pavement management strategies, Patrick credits the dedication of the Public Works team and the support of the Board of County Commissioners for these important community investments. Outside of work, Patrick enjoys spending time with family and friends and staying active with hobbies like surfing, snowboarding, fishing, boating, and anything related to the water. He and his wife of 20 years have a teenage son who keeps them both constantly entertained.

Community Engagement

The monthly meeting of the Republican Party of St. Lucie County brought together residents and County Commissioners for an evening of open discussion and community engagement. Attendees had the opportunity to ask questions, learn more about key initiatives, and hear updates on issues impacting St. Lucie County. Events like this provide a valuable forum for residents to stay informed and connected with their local government.

It was an honor to chair my first meeting as Chair of the Local Coordinating Board for the Transportation Disadvantaged here in St. Lucie County. The board plays a vital role in ensuring residents who face transportation challenges have access to safe, reliable services. We meet quarterly to review pricing and service levels, safety concerns, eligibility requirements, and other key issues to help strengthen transportation options for our community.
