Fairwinds Golf Course Hosts Valor Cup June 24
Fairwinds Golf Course will host 32 veterans and/or active-duty military personnel competing in a friendly, competitive tournament as St. Lucie County’s municipal course hosts the 2nd Annual Valor Cup on Wednesday, June 24.
Through the PGA HOPE (Helping Our Patriots Everywhere) program, veterans and active-duty military personnel are introduced to the game of golf to enhance their physical, mental, social and emotional well-being. Led by PGA of America Golf Professionals, the program includes a developmental six- to eight-week curriculum. All programs are provided at no cost to all participating veterans through a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), which enables direct referrals to the PGA HOPE program as a form of therapy.
For the past seven years, Fairwinds Golf Course has hosted bi-annual PGA HOPE programs. Each fall and spring, the PGA professional staff at Fairwinds instructs area veterans through a six-week program. To date, more than 300 veterans have been served by Fairwinds’ PGA HOPE program.
