Youth Reading Program Heats Up Inside St. Lucie County Libraries for June

ST. LUCIE COUNTY – Keep your family engaged this summer with a variety of educational programs offered by the St. Lucie County Library System.
Youth programs for June include:
- Tuesday, June 2 at 6 p.m. - Pajama Tales at the Hurston Branch. Join the library staff in your pajamas for this nighttime edition of storytime. The whole family is invited to this Storytime that encourages the development of pre-reading skills through songs, rhymes, fingerplays and stories. Best suited for ages up to 5 years.
- Friday, June 5 at 10:30 a.m. - Water Woman presents Wastewater at the Lewis Branch Library. What happens after the flush? Water Woman will take you down the drain and into the sewer to learn more about the collection system and how wastewater is treated. Participants will enjoy a hands-on “flush test” activity, and they’ll make their own microorganism, too. Presented in partnership with St. Lucie County Utilities.
- Friday, June 5 from 1 to 3 p.m. - Gaming with the Switch 2 at the Hurston Branch. Explore Mario Kart World on Nintendo Switch 2. Play with new characters, learn new skills and race on bigger obstacles. No library card or past gaming experience required! Most suitable for ages 6-11.
- Saturday, June 6 from 10:30 a.m. to noon - Legos and More at the Lakewood Park Branch. Build and create with LEGO bricks, crafts, or play cards and board games.
- Saturday, June 6 at 2 p.m. - S.T.E.A.M. Power! at the Hurston Branch. Explore the world of science, technology, engineering, art and math in fun ways. Learn about weather, rainbows, color, motion and more. Most suitable for ages 6-11.
- Saturday, June 6 at 2:30 p.m. - Summer Reading Bash at the Morningside Branch. Join us for our Summer Reading Bash. This will be a fun, all-ages celebration. Sign up for the summer reading program, enjoy games, crafts, interactive activities and connect with your community. Plus, win prizes and get inspired to make this your best reading summer yet.
- Monday, June 8 at 10:30 a.m. - Summer Reading Kickoff: Out of My Hands Juggling & Illusions at the Havert L. Fenn Center, located at 2000 Virginia Ave in Fort Pierce. Join the library staff for a summer reading program kick-off you will not want to miss with amazing juggling, illusions and more.
- Tuesday, June 9 at 10:30 a.m. - LEGO Fun at the Lewis Branch. Enjoy building and creating with LEGO bricks in the library. Best suited for ages 6-11.
- Wednesday, June 10 from 2 to 3 p.m. - S.T.E.A.M. Power at the Lakewood Park Branch. Come explore the world of science, technology, engineering, art and math in fun ways. Create your own dinosaur fossils, dig for fossils, engage in a dinosaur scavenger hunt and more. Most suitable for ages 6-11.
- Wednesday, June 10 at 2:30 p.m. - Master Gardener’s Present: Stages of a Butterfly, a STEM and Craft Program at the Morningside Branch. This fun and educational experience will let children explore the life cycle of a butterfly through hands-on learning. Kids will discover the four stages, eggs, caterpillar, chrysalis and butterfly, while engaging in simple STEM activities and creative crafts that bring each stage to life. This program encourages curiosity about nature, supports early science learning and allows children to express their creativity in an enjoyable and interactive way. Recommended for ages 5-12.
- Thursday, June 11 at 10:30 a.m. - Movie Matinee: “Lilo & Stitch” at the Lewis Branch. This live-action remake of Disney’s animated classic, “Lilo & Stitch” follows a lonely Hawaiian girl and the fugitive alien who helps to mend her broken family. The film is rated PG with a running time of 108 minutes.
- Thursday, June 11 at 2 p.m. - Interactive Movie Matinee: “Bad Guys 2” at the Kilmer Branch. Come on out and watch the movie “Bad Guys 2.” Enjoy some fun while you do fun activities throughout the movie. Best suited for ages 6-11. The film is rated PG with a running time of 104 minutes.

This is a fun, hands-on program where kids can use their creativity to design and make their own dragon eggs. As they mix colors and explore different materials, they’ll learn simple science concepts in an easy and engaging way. It’s perfect for young creators and dragon fans. Each child will take home their own unique dragon egg. Recommended for ages 5-12.
- Tuesday, June 16 at 10:30 a.m. - LEGO Fun at the Lewis Branch. Enjoy building and creating with LEGO bricks in the library. Best suited for ages 6-11.
- Wednesday, June 17 from 2 to 3 p.m. - S.T.E.A.M. Power at the Lakewood Park Branch. Come explore the world of science, technology, engineering, art and math through creating dinosaur dioramas. Most suitable for ages 6-11.
- Wednesday, June 17 at 2:30 p.m. - Wildlife Friends & Foes with Oxbow at the Morningside Branch. It's wild out there. Meet St. Lucie's backyard wildlife. Compare local native, exotic and invasive plants and animals and learn how they behave in ecosystems. Are they friends or foes? Can we all learn to get along? In partnership with the Oxbow Eco Center.
- Thursday, June 18 at 10:30 a.m. - Movie Matinee: “Bad Guys 2” at the Lewis Branch. Join our now-reformed Bad Guys as they find themselves in a high-stakes heist masterminded by a team of criminals they never saw coming: The Bad Girls. The film is rated PG with a running time of 104 minutes.
- Friday, June 19 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. – Juneteenth at the Hurston Branch. Celebrate Juneteenth with the library staff. Drop in to make bracelets, buttons and other crafts. While supplies last.
- Friday, June 19 at 10:30 a.m. - Manatee 101 at the Kilmer Branch. The Manatee Center will talk about manatees, where families will discover what they eat, where they live and why they need our help. Through a simple story, we will explore how to protect these gentle giants together.
- Friday, June 19 at 10:30 a.m. - Adventures with Oxbow at the Lewis Branch. Compare local native, exotic and invasive plants and animals and learn how they behave in ecosystems. Meet live Oxbow wildlife ambassadors and discover some of Florida's native, exotic and invasive species.
- Saturday, June 20 at 10:30 a.m. - Father’s Day Card Craft at the Hurston Branch. Stop in and create a personalized card for the dad in your life. All supplies provided. All ages welcome.
- Saturday, June 20 from 10:30 a.m. to noon - Legos and More at the Lakewood Park Branch. Build and create with LEGO bricks, crafts or play cards and board games.
- Saturday, June 20 at 2:30 p.m. - Interactive Movie: “Night at the Museum” at the Morningside Branch. Join us for a magical afternoon when the museum comes to life. Students will watch “Night at the Museum” and take part in fun, hands-on activities inspired by the exhibits. Adventure, games, and surprises await. Recommended for ages 6 and older. The film is rated PG with a running time of 108 minutes.
- Tuesday, June 23 at 10:30 a.m. - LEGO Fun at the Lewis Branch. Enjoy building and creating with LEGO bricks in the library. Best suited for ages 6-11.

- Wednesday, June 24 from 2 to 3 p.m. - S.T.E.A.M. Power! at the Lakewood Park Branch. Come explore the world of science, technology, engineering, art and math by creating clay dinosaur sculptures, dinosaur masks and help color our dinosaur wall mural.
- Thursday, June 25 at 10:30 a.m. - Movie Matinee: “Smurfs” at the Lewis Branch. Follow Smurfette as she leads the Smurfs on a mission to the real world to save Papa Smurf after he is taken by evil wizards, Razamel and Gargamel. The film is rated PG with a running time of 92 minutes.
- Friday, June 26 at 10:30 a.m. - Wildlife Friends & Foes with Oxbow at the Lewis Branch. It's wild out there. Meet St. Lucie's backyard wildlife. Compare local native, exotic and invasive plants and animals and learn how they behave in ecosystems. Are they friends or foes? Can we all learn to get along? In partnership with the Oxbow Eco Center.
- Friday, June 26 at 2 p.m. - Dino Slime at the Kilmer Branch. Come out to the library and make some prehistoric slime. All supplies provided. Best suited for ages 6-11.
- Saturday, June 27 from 10 a.m. to noon - Chess Party at the Lakewood Park Branch. Where kids learn strategy, focus and confidence while playing together. All skill levels welcome.

- Storytime Jam – Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. at the Kilmer Branch. Clap, dance and listen to stories with ages 3-5.
- Family Storytime at 10:30 a.m. - Designed for ages up to 5 years, but all ages are welcome.
- Mondays at the Pruitt Campus
- Tuesdays at the Lakewood Park Branch
- Fridays at the Morningside Branch
- Preschool Storybook Craft – Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. at the Lakewood Park and Hurston Branches. Children ages 4 and 5 are invited to listen to stories, then join their parents and caregivers for a related craft.
