Walton Road area residents now enjoy increased access, thanks to a new sidewalk between Southeast Lennard Road and Southeast Green River Parkway.

The project was accepted by the St. Lucie County Board of County Commissioners during their Regular Meeting on May 19. Approximately 5,000 feet of 10-feet to 12-feet-wide multi-use sidewalk were installed in the area. Drainage improvements were also implemented along the walkway.

The total construction budget for the project was $2,323,711.90. The total amount expended was $2,089,330.08, which included $46,240.06 in contingency for additional approved work. The project was completed under budget with a remainder of $234,381.82.

A Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) grant administered through the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Local Agency Program assisted to fund the construction of the project.

A separate project to complete a gap in the sidewalk near Port St. Lucie Hospital is currently being planned to start construction this summer, completing the stretch of sidewalk between Lennard Road and Green River Parkway.
