St. Lucie County has met the qualifications for Full Local Agency Program (LAP) Certification from the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT).

This certification authorizes the County to manage, design, and construct three upcoming sidewalk projects using federal funds: St. James Drive from Northeast Lazy River Parkway to Northeast Royce Avenue; Sunrise Boulevard from Bell Avenue to North St. Lucie Water Control District (NSLWCD) Canal 10; and Easy Street from U.S. Highway 1 to Canal 22 at SUN Trail.

“Being outdoors is one of the perks of living in St. Lucie County,” said Public Works Director Patrick Dayan, P.E. “This certification lets us leverage local funds as a match for federal revenues, helping us invest in safe pathways for pedestrians and cyclists to enjoy.”

In addition to any potential federal funding, the 2018 voter-approved half-cent sales tax initiative supports a variety of infrastructure projects, including the construction of new sidewalks. These projects are designed to improve public safety, accessibility, and enhance the quality of life for St. Lucie residents.

In earning this certification, FDOT reviewed LAP project and audit materials for the 2023 and 2024 fiscal years. This assessment found that the County has adequate staffing for projects, is proactive about training, and performed satisfactorily on previous projects.
