Tap into Free Adult Programs this May through St. Lucie County Libraries

ukulele learning class with teacher and other adults - St. Lucie County, FloridaST. LUCIE COUNTY – Residents can learn new skills and make community connections this May through an exhaustive calendar of free programs offered by the St. Lucie County Library System.

Specialized adult programs for May include:

  • Adult Coloring and Conversation: Adult coloring promotes wellness, quietness and stimulates areas of the brain related to motor skills, the senses and creativity. Join us to color and relax. You can bring your own materials, and the library will also provide supplies.
    • Saturday, May 2 from 11 a.m. to noon at the Lewis Branch
    • Thursday, May 21 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Lakewood Branch.

  • Beginner Crochet on Wednesday, May 6 & 13 at 2 p.m. at the Kilmer Branch. Join the library staff for an afternoon of crocheting for beginners. Materials provided or feel free to bring your own yarn. Space limited to first 12 patrons.

  • Film Club at the Library on Wednesday, May 6 & 20 at 3 p.m. at the Pruitt Camp Library. Watch the movie selection on Kanopy at your convenience and come to the library for a discussion. Participants will be sent an email with the upcoming films to be discussed. Email Cole Curtiss-Fuentes, Library Public Services Coordinator at IRSC or phone 772-336-6381 to be added to the list.

  • Chi Meditation on Saturdays, May 9 & 23 at 10 a.m. at the Morningside Branch. Learn the practices of Chi Meditation, which is designed to improve the body’s natural flow, regulate breathing, boost immunity and remove stagnation (energy blockages) to enhance physiological and psychological well-being. Classes will be facilitated by Rosalee McCurdy PhD.

  • Editing Line by Line on Saturday, May 9 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Lewis Branch. Make your story’s sentences tighter, brighter and more impactful.

  • All Things Yarn on Saturday, May 16 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the Lewis Branch. Knitting, crocheting or any other yarn craft is welcome. Bring and share whatever project you are working on. Please bring your own supplies.

  • Stamp Carving on Wednesday, May 20 at 2 p.m. at the Kilmer Branch. Practice stenciling and carving techniques to carve your own stamp. Themed for the season, these stamps can be used to elevate paper and fabric crafts alike. This program is intended for adults and involves sharp blades for carving.

  • Memorial Day: World History in Miniature Diorama Exhibition at the Morningside Branch. Multiple dioramas will be on display. Join Enrico Capo, the builder, for a discussion on some of the history represented in miniature, including the American Revolutionary War and the American Civil War. All ages are welcome.
    • Thursday, May 21 from 2:30 to 7:30 p.m.
    • Friday, May 22 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
    • Saturday, May 23 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

  • Ukulele Jam: Thursday, May 21 at 5:30 p.m. at the Morningside Branch. Held in partnership with the Treasure Coast Ukulele Club.

  • Prep Your Landscape for Summer on Friday, May 22 at 10 a.m. at the Morningside Branch. Learn tips to help your plants survive during the hot summer months, which plants survive well, and how to prepare your landscape for the hurricane season. Program facilitated by Master Gardener Karen Kartmill. Registration is required as space is limited. To register, please call 772-462-1132 or email Dr. Sara MacDonald, Urban Horticulture Agent at UF/IFAS Extension St. Lucie County.

  • Art in the Afternoon:
    • Friday, May 22 at 2 p.m. at the Kilmer Branch. Build a Fairy Gnome Home. Learn how to transform old books into 3D sculptures through page folding. Space limited to first 12 patrons.
    • Saturday, May 23 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Lakewood Park Branch. Join the library staff for an afternoon of textured painting.

  • Acoustic Guitar Jam: Saturday, May 23 at 2 p.m. at the Morningside Branch. Grab your guitar and join this unplugged session.

  • Silent Book Club on Saturday, May 30 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the Lewis Branch. Introverts unite and join the library staff for some quiet, communal reading time and some casual socializing and sharing. Bring any book you'd like or grab one here and enjoy reading in companionable silence.

Weekly recurring events continue throughout the month, including Gardening Advice (Tuesdays and Thursdays, 1-3 p.m. at Morningside), Writer's Workshop (Thursdays at 9 a.m. at Morningside) and Mahjong Open Play (Thursdays, 1:30-3:30 p.m. at Kilmer). Residents can also book sewing machines by appointment at the Hurston Branch by calling 772-462-2154.

  • Lakewood Park Branch: 7605 Santa Barbara Drive, Fort Pierce, Fla. 34951. Hours: Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; Wednesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • Morningside Branch: 2410 SE Morningside Blvd., Port St. Lucie, Fla. 34952. Hours: Tuesday and Thursday: 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • Paula A. Lewis Branch: 2950 SW Rosser Blvd., Port St. Lucie, Fla. 34953. Hours: Monday and Wednesday: 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; Tuesday and Thursday: 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Friday and Saturday: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • Pruitt Campus Library Branch: 500 N.W. California Blvd., Port St. Lucie, Fla. 34986. Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • Zora Neale Hurston Branch: 3008 Avenue D, Fort Pierce, Fla. 34947. Hours: Tuesday and Thursday: 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Wednesday: 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; Friday and Saturday: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • The Port St. Lucie Branch is currently closed for renovations.
