The completed Eastwood Canal Restoration Project was presented to the St. Lucie County Board of County Commissioners at the Regular Meeting on February 17.

Tornadoes from Hurricane Milton in October 2024 caused significant damage to the canal, which serves as a primary drainage channel for the central and eastern Lakewood Park community.

The restoration project removed fallen trees and storm debris within and along the approximate 2.2 miles of canal. Several repairs to the drainage outfalls and improvements to the canal bank slopes were also included. The work resulted in more resilient infrastructure and strengthens stormwater systems.

All professional services and design work were performed by St. Lucie County staff, which enabled the design process to be completed in less than three months.

Debris from the canal was placed in piles along the bank and then removed.

Repairs to four outfalls included replacement of pipes and reestablishment of the banks.
