Kick Off 2026 with Free Family Fun and Learning at St. Lucie County Libraries

ST. LUCIE COUNTY – St. Lucie County libraries are calling all children, tweens and teens to get active and creative this month. With a fresh lineup of free events, including gaming tournaments, money management workshops and bilingual storytimes, there is something for every age group to enjoy.
Children and family programs for January include:
- Scavenger Hunt on Saturday, Jan. 3 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Lewis Branch. Stop by the Lewis Branch during regular hours to see if you can find all the clues.
- Kids Crafternoon on Saturday, Jan. 3 at 2:30 p.m. at the Morningside Branch. All supplies provided. Best suited for kids ages 5 and older.
- S.T.E.A.M. Power! Explore the world of science, technology, engineering, art and math in fun ways. Most suitable for grades K-5.
- Saturday, Jan. 3 at 3 p.m. at Hurston Branch
- Wednesday, Jan. 7 from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Lakewood Park Branch
- Saturday, Jan. 10 at 2:30 p.m. at Morningside Branch
- Thursday, Jan. 29 from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Lewis Branch
- Kids Crafternoon on Tuesday, Jan. 6 from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Lewis Branch. All materials supplied. Best suited for grades 3-8.
- Family Game Night on Thursday, Jan. 15 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Lewis Branch. This is a family event where participants can bring in a family game or use the library’s.
- Movie Matinee: “The Bad Guys 2” on Saturday, Jan. 17 at 10:30 a.m. at the Hurston Branch. Everyone’s favorite felons are back; they’ve got company. The animated feature is rated PG with a running time of 104 minutes.
- LEGOs and More on Saturday, Jan. 17 from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the Lakewood Park Branch. Join us for building and creating LEGO bricks along with cards, board games and crafts.
- Baby & Me Storytime on Saturday, Jan. 17 at 10:30 a.m. at the Morningside Branch. Babies, books and buddies. Best suited for infants up to 18 months.
- LEGO Fun at the Library on Tuesday, Jan. 20 from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Lewis Branch. Get creative with LEGO bricks. Best suited for elementary-age students.
- Movie Matinee with a Stuffie: “Lilo and Stitch” on Saturday, Jan. 24 at 2 p.m. at the Lakewood Park Branch. Just like Lilo had Stitch, attendees are encouraged to bring a favorite stuffed animal to watch with them. This animated feature is rated PG with a running time of 108 minutes.
- Bilingual Storytime with Ballet on Thursday, Jan. 29 at 10:30 a.m. at the Lewis Branch. Join us for storytime in English and Spanish with Tutu Ballet School through stories, songs, and dance as little ones explore movement. Designed for ages 18 months – 5 years. No experience or equipment is necessary.
- Storytime Jam with Ballet on Friday, Jan. 30 at 10:30 a.m. at the Lewis Branch. Join us for story time with Tutu Ballet School through stories, songs, and dance as little ones explore movement. Designed for ages 18 months – 5 years. No experience or equipment is necessary.
Tweens and Teens programs:
- Tween Crafternoon on Saturday, Jan. 3 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the Lakewood Park Branch. Let your creativity shine and come craft with us.
- Anime Multimedia Club on Thursday, Jan. 8 at 4:15 p.m. at the Morningside Branch. Meet up with friends and share your passion for all things anime and manga. Best suited for tweens and teens in grades 6 and up.
- Come Through and Chill on Thursday, Jan. 8, 22 and 29 at 4:30 p.m. at the Lewis Branch. Come chill at the library. Enjoy a variety of fun activities. Best suited for ages 11-18. All materials supplied.
- Teen Silent Book Club on Saturday, Jan. 10 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the Kilmer Branch. Join us for one hour of silent reading followed by optional socializing. Bring any book you'd like or grab one here and enjoy reading in companionable silence.
- Teen Coding Club on Thursday, Jan. 15 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at the Lewis Branch. Work alone or together in a casual setting to code and learn from each other. Bring your own device or use ours. Best suited for ages 11-18.
- Teen “Knot-a-Bag” Crafternoon on Thursday, Jan. 15 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Kilmer Branch. Upcycle your style. Join us for a creative workshop where you’ll turn old T-shirts into stylish drawstring bookbags. No sewing needed. Just your imagination and some cutting and knotting. Bring your favorite t-shirt and leave with your new favorite bag. Best suited for ages 12-16. Participants must bring a t-shirt; all other supplies will be provided.
- Teen Gaming Tournament on Saturday, Jan. 17 from 2 to 4:30 p.m. at the Lakewood Park Branch. Join us for a fun-filled afternoon of video game excitement in this competitive Nintendo Switch Tournament where players compete for victory. Best suited for ages 11-18.
- Teen/Tween Crafternoon on Tuesday, Jan. 20 at 4:15 p.m. at the Morningside Branch. Enjoy a fun crafternoon. A variety of supplies will be provided. Follow along with a new craft or work on your own project.
- Money Management 101 on Thursday, Jan. 29 at 5:30 p.m. at the Kilmer Branch. This monthly series will teach how to budget, save and manage your money to be able to build a healthy financial future. Best suited for grades 5 through 8.

- Family Storytime at 10:30 a.m. Designed for children up to age 5, but all ages are welcome.

- Baby and Me at 10:30 a.m. Babies, books and buddies. Best suited for infants up to 1 year. Storytime followed by open playtime.

- Storytime Jam at 10:30 a.m. Reading and Rhythm - Clap, dance and listen to stories for ages 3 to 5.
- Wednesdays at the Kilmer Branch
- Fridays at the Lewis Branch
- Preschool Storybook Craft at 10:30 a.m. Listen to stories and stay to create a fun craft.
- Thursdays at the Lakewood Park Branch and Hurston Branch
- Thursdays at the Lakewood Park Branch and Hurston Branch
- Bilingual Storytime Jam at 10:30 a.m.
- Thursdays at the Lewis Branch

- Music and Motion for Kids at 10:30 a.m. Action songs, movement, singing, instruments and fun. All students under 6 with a caregiver are welcome.
- Wednesdays at the Lewis and Morningside Branches
- Fridays at the Lakewood Park Branch
- Pre-school Storybook Craft at 10:30 a.m. Children ages 4 and 5 are invited to listen to stories, then join their parents and caregivers for a related craft.
- Thursdays at Lakewood Park Branch and Hurston Branch

- Tales and Play at 10:30 a.m. Children up to age 5 and their caregivers are invited for a storytime. Afterward, all are welcome to stay for some open playtime.

HOLIDAY CLOSURES:
All branches of the library will be closed on Thursday, Jan. 1 and Friday, Jan. 2 for New Year’s Day, and Monday, Jan. 19, in observance of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday.
