American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification

The session will begin with a pre-course class on Friday, Aug. 30 from 4 to 8 p.m. and full course classes taking place Friday, Sept. 13 from 4 to 8 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 14 and Sunday, Sept. 15 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Ravenswood Pool. 

The cost for this course is $200. One hundred percent attendance is required to complete the course. Successful completion of this course certifies participants in lifeguarding, first aid, CPR, AED, emergency oxygen administration and blood-borne pathogens training. The certification is valid for two years.

Participants must be at least 15 years old (please bring a form of ID for proof of age. If under 18 - participants must have parent’s signature). Additionally, participants must be able to swim continuously for 300 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both. Participants must be able to swim 20 yards, surface dive in a minimum of six feet of water, swim along the bottom for 10-15 feet to retrieve a 10-pound brick from the bottom of the pool and swim back 20 yards with the brick and exit the pool without using the steps or ladder within 1 minute and 40 seconds; as well as tread water for 2 minutes using legs only.

Pre-enroll by emailing Aquatics Supervisor Debra Landau at Participants will not be allowed in the class unless pre-enrollment has been completed.  Participants must bring their own pocket mask, whistle and swim suit. Payment is required in full upon completion of the pre-course.
