on a Commemorative Stamp

Fort Pierce and St. Lucie County honored Zora with a special ceremony on Friday, February 28, 2003, at the Zora Neale Hurston Branch Library, 3008 Avenue D in Fort Pierce. Featured events were:

  • Special Pictorial Stamp Cancellation available
  • Collection of Zora Neale Hurston books available for purchase
  • Guest speakers talked about her life and works
  • Local organizations and clubs hosted informational booths
  • Music selections performed by the Lincoln Park Academy Choir
  • Free shuttle bus to Zora's home and gravesite every 30 minutes
  • Food and refreshments available from vendors
  • Dramatic readings by local schools and cultural organizations
