for Her Achievements in the Literary Arts
on a Commemorative Stamp
Fort Pierce and St. Lucie County honored Zora with a special ceremony on Friday, February 28, 2003, at the Zora Neale Hurston Branch Library, 3008 Avenue D in Fort Pierce. Featured events were:
- Special Pictorial Stamp Cancellation available
- Collection of Zora Neale Hurston books available for purchase
- Guest speakers talked about her life and works
- Local organizations and clubs hosted informational booths
- Music selections performed by the Lincoln Park Academy Choir
- Free shuttle bus to Zora's home and gravesite every 30 minutes
- Food and refreshments available from vendors
- Dramatic readings by local schools and cultural organizations
