VA Medical Transportation
St. Lucie County Veteran Services provides free transportation for veterans to and from the West Palm Beach VA Medical Center. We provide a safe and comfortable ride for veterans who do not have other means of travel and/or can no longer drive. This service is available for up to 30 passengers per day, Monday through Friday. Veterans calling with transportation needs are scheduled on a "first come - first served" basis. Veterans must have a confirmed medical appointment between 8:30 am and 12:30 pm prior to calling the office to request a ride. Reservations can be taken up to three weeks in advance of a confirmed appointment.
In order to accommodate veterans throughout the County, two convenient pick up locations have been established:

Departs 7:10 am |
The vans leave the VA Medical Center no later than 2:00 p.m. for the return trip, (and may leave earlier if all passengers have completed their scheduled appointments). This allows a window of one and a half hours for the last appointment to be completed and prescriptions picked up.
Here's a perfect example of a bad day for the veteran, van driver, and other passengers: Veteran has an 8:30 a.m. appointment in orthopedics. Doctor orders an x-ray, veteran proceeds to the x-ray dept. and has to wait due to emergencies, etc. It is now 11:00, the vet goes back to Ortho with the x-ray, the Doctor is seeing another patient, by the time the veteran is finally seen again it is 12:30. The Doctor does not like x-ray, sends veteran for re-take, veteran goes back to x-ray, (assuming that the van driver will know he is "running behind"). By the time the veteran repeats this process it is after 2:00 - meanwhile, driver and other passengers are waiting in the lobby, and all, including the veteran, are tired, hungry and ready to make the one and a half hour trip back.
