Health Care
Enrolling in the VA Health Care system is very easy, and requires completion of only one form in most instances. To enroll, you will need proof of your military service, and income information (if you are receiving compensation for a service-connected condition, you will not need these, but it would be helpful to bring your VA claim number).

Currently, there are EIGHT priorities of health care access. The highest priorities are reserved for veterans with service-connected disabilities.
Priority Group1 is for veterans with service-connected conditions rated 50% or above.
Priority Group 2 is for veterans with service-connected conditions rated 30% to 40%.
Priority Group 3 is for veterans with service-connected conditions rated 10% to 20%; veterans who are former Prisoners of War; veterans who were discharged from active duty for a disability occurring in the line of duty and/or Purple Heart recipients.
Priority Group 4 is for veterans in receipt of A & A and/or housebound benefits; veterans determined by the VA to be in catastrophically disabled.
Priority Group 5 is for veterans who are receiving VA pension benefits; veterans who are 0% service-connected and whose income and net worth are below the established VA Means test thresholds; veterans eligible for Medicaid.
Priority Group 6 is for compensable 0% service-connected veterans; WW I veterans; Mexican Boarder War veterans; veterans solely seeking care for disorders associated with exposure to herbicides while serving in Vietnam; or exposure to ionizing radiation during atmospheric testing or during the occupation of Hiroshima and Nagasaki; or for disorders associated with service in the Gulf War; or for any illness associated with service in combat in a war after the Gulf War or during a period of hostility after November 11, 1998.
Priority Group 7 is for non service-connected veterans and 0% service-connected veterans whose income exceeds the established dollar threshold or whose income and net worth exceeds $50,000 and who agree to make co-payments for medical care.
Priority Group 8
Effective January 16, 2003, VA is not accepting non-compensable 0% service-connected veterans nor non-service connected veterans whose income and/or net worth is above the VA Means Test threshold.
If you do not have a service-connected condition or do not fall into one of the special categories, you will be asked to provide information for a "means test."
Veterans enrolling in the year 2010 are asked to report their income for the year 2009
