The St. Lucie County Parks and Recreation Department and its staff welcome you to the Savannas, an outdoor recreation area providing camping, boating, fishing, and picnic facilities.

Covering 550 acres and five distinct biological communities, the Savannas provide access to pine flatwoods, wet prairie, marsh, lake and scrub all in a single glance. With the goal to educate as well as recreate, the area provides interpretive trails on both land and water. Due to the unique biological and geographical features, the Savannas received reserve status by the Florida Legislature in 1978. The Savannas is perhaps the last most unique and pristine wilderness area in the United States.

Overnight camping and kayak/canoe rentals at the Savannas Recreation Area is available from October 1st thru the first Monday in May.  

The Savannas will remain open year round, seven days a week from 6 a.m. -7:30 p.m. for day visitors and residents to hike, bike, fish, picnic, observe wildlife or kayak/canoe. The Palm Island Pavillion Area will be available for rent through the summer month. Daily admission into the park is free.   

Directions: 6.2 miles east of I-95 on Midway Rd. (Exit 126)

Family Campers: (Overnight campaing is only available from October 1 thru the first Monday in May)
There are five types of campsites for general use:

  • Primitive
  • Unimproved (no electricity)
  • Improved (electricity and water)
  • Fully improved (electricity, water and sewage hookup)
  • Group

Rates & Fees

  • Youth Group Sites $5 per tent per day
  • Primitive Tent Sites $10 per day
  • Unimproved Tent Sites $15 per day
  • Improved Sites $20 per day
  • Water, Electric and Sewer $22 per day
  • Palm Island Rental Fees $100 per day
  • Palm Island Cleaning Deposit $100 (refundable deposit)
  • Gate Card Deposit $20 per stay (refundable deposit)
  • Note: Non-season and Group Discounts Available
