Arts and Cultural Alliance of St. Lucie, Inc. 2011 Strategic Plan

Art in Public Places
In 1999, the Cultural Affairs Council spearheaded the effort to have Art in Public Places Ordinance 99-07 passed by St. Lucie County's Board of County Commissioners. Viewing SculptureThis program, modeled on earlier State and Federal public arts programs, is funded by taking a small percentage of the dollars that are invested by the County for capital improvement projects and placing them in a fund designated to be utilized for the purchase of public art. An advisory Art in Public Places Committee makes suggestions to the Board of County Commissioners as to appropriate locations for public art and nominates artists that are qualified to execute these art commissions.

SculptureThe City of Fort Pierce also passed a similar Art in Public Places ordinance in 1999. The program is administered by City staff. In instances where the County and City jointly decide on an appropriate project that's within City limits, the selection process is done by a committee representing both jurisdictions and the cost of the project is split, making it possible for our Art in Public Places funds to go farther.

The City of Port St. Lucie has established the PAAB-Public Arts Advisory Board in August 2008 under Ordinance 07-155.
