Monday, July 19, 2010 - Indrio Preserve Closed July 22-23 For Prescribed Burn
The Indrio Savannahs Preserve will be closed Wednesday, July 21 at sunset through Friday, July 23 as St. Lucie County's Environmental Resources Department and the Florida Division of Forestry (DOF) resume prescribed burning at the site.Prescribed burns are conducted regularly by forestry officials to decrease the chance of wildfires and improve habitat for all wildlife in these preserves. The site is expected to reopen Saturday, July 24.
Smoke from the prescribed burn is dependent on weather and wind conditions. Indrio Savannahs Preserve is located at 5100 Tozour Road, Fort Pierce, off U.S. 1. The 297-acre site is part of St. Lucie County's Environmentally Significant Lands program.
