Monday, May 17, 2010 - Lakewood Park Library Garden Gathering Group Meets On New Day

The Lakewood Park Branch Library's Garden Gathering group will be meeting on a new day - the first Tuesday of each month - starting Tuesday, June 1 from 1 - 2:30 p.m.

The Garden Gathering, a group of people who enjoy learning about Florida gardening, is led by Master Gardener Joanne Miller. The group is always looking for new members.

The focus of the June meeting will be on Plumeria (frangipani) - the flowering shrub/tree of the month.  The Lei Flower is a tropical succulent known for its flowers and fragrance, yet with few pests or diseases. Learn how to plant, winter-over, propagate and prune this tropical tender.

Tips for June include: pruning roses, while the Fungus of the Month is rust. Miller reminds everyone that growing plants in Florida is much the same as any other place - but gardening is quite different.

This program is free and open to the public.
