Local historian and genealogist Patti Kirk will continue her Genealogy History Series at the Morningside Branch Library offering talks on using death certificates and medical genetics for research as well as lectures on ''orphan trains.''- Wednesday, Jan. 7 from 10 - 11:30 a.m. - Genealogy Class: ''Death Certificates.''
- Wednesday, Jan. 7 from 1:30 - 3 p.m. - Genealogy Lecture: ''Orphan Trains.'' In New York City in 1856 most of the 100,000 street children were orphans. For nearly 75 years these orphans were moved to Michigan via trains in hopes of being adopted. Could one of your ancestors be one of the riders?
- Saturday, Jan. 17 from 10 - 11:45 a.m. - Genealogy Workshop: ''Witches and Pirates.'' Guest speaker Betsy Fiske will demonstrate how you can discover if there is a witch or pirate in your family using time, location and surnames.
- Monday, Jan. 26 from 10 - 11:30 a.m. - Genealogy Class: ''Medical Genetics'' with guest speaker Betsy Fiske.
A historian, genealogist, lecturer, teacher and syndicated columnist of genealogical studies, Kirk is the creator of the Family History Genealogical Research Group covering Martin, St. Lucie, Indian River and Brevard counties.
