December 4, 2007 - Steel Band to Play FP Library Dec. 15
The Fort Pierce Teen Time Unlimited Steel Band Orchestra will be performing in front of the Fort Pierce Branch Library on Saturday, Dec. 15 at noon. The Steel Band Orchestra originated in 2006 and is comprised of young teenagers who perform throughout the community. Being a member of the Steel Band Orchestra teaches the students the concept of teamwork, the joy of creative self-expression, and greatly increases their confidence and self-esteem.
The Steel Drum, or Pan, is an ethnic percussion instrument. It is one of the most recently invented instruments and is a hammered 55-gallon oil drum, which has been carefully tuned to produce tones. It carries the full chromatic range of notes and can produce all types of music.
Performances of the students have received rave reviews and community groups increasingly request the band.
