December 4, 2007 - Library Offers Day of Children's Programs Dec. 13

Children are invited to a full day of events at the Fort Pierce Library on Thursday, Dec. 13, starting at 11:30 a.m.

Ada Forney, a professional, full-time storyteller, singer, author, and composer will perform at the library at 11:30 a.m. Forney, a member of the Florida Storytelling Association, the National Storytelling Network, Florida Folklore Society, Florida Historical Society and Toast-masters International, will be at the library all day to continue her storytelling to all ages. She teaches storytelling, stars in a half-hour storytelling television show, is a guest storyteller on public radio and has performed at many storytelling festivals including the prestigious Florida Folk Festival.

Storytelling will be followed at 12:30 p.m. by St. Micheal's Academy and Museum of West Palm Beach offering a hands-on historical program. As many as 25 children may participate and registration is required. Representatives from the museum will demonstrate 400-year-old pottery shards from the salvage expedition of the 1656 Spanish shipwrecked galleon, ''Señora de las Maravillas.'' Students will have the opportunity to work with ceramic pottery, which will be broken in a plastic bag and then put back together again by each participant. Students will also learn about ancient pottery and underwater archeology and watch a DVD presentation, set to music, on Valesquez, court artist during the reign of King Philip IV. Parents are welcome to stay for the program.

At 2 p.m., the ''History Alive'' cast of the St. Lucie Historical Society, Inc., will tell their story to the audience.

St. Micheal's Academy and Museum will present their second hands-on historical program of the day at 3 p.m. Again, up to 25 children may participate. Registration for this session is also required.

To register for the hands-on program, please call (772) 465-5658 and leave a first and last name, phone number, the number of children you are registering for the program, and the session for which you are registering (12:30 or 3 p.m.).
