November 20, 2007 - Fort Pierce Library Announces December Nature Series

The St. Lucie County Library System announces several programs with Audubon Warden Capt. Chop Lege as part of its Interactive Nature Series for the month of December with topics ranging from local birds to the Florida Everglades.

The series takes place each Thursday at 3 p.m. with a presentation at the Fort Pierce Branch Library in downtown Fort Pierce followed by a ''Walk & Talk'' on Friday at 1:30 p.m. on a county mosquito impoundment on South Hutchinson Island. These programs are free and open to everyone.

  • Thursday, Dec. 6:  Birds and Birding - Florida is home to hundreds of bird species and is visited by abundant migrating and breeding birds each year. This presentation by Capt. ''Chop'' Legé will be an overview of the many different types of birds including water birds such as pelicans, anhingas, and ibises.
  • Friday, Dec. 7: ''Walk and Talk Tour'' with Capt. Legé at Vitolo Family Park on A1A, South Hutchinson Island.
  • Thursday, Dec. 13: Florida's Habitats - It is difficult to define Florida’s habitats exactly or to generalize as to their distribution. Come hear Capt. Legé discuss how Florida’s mild climate and water supply supports natural communities of diversity and how its ecosystems must also adapt to difficult environmental conditions.
  • Friday, Dec. 14: ''Walk and Talk Tour'' with Capt. Legé at Bear Pointe Sanctuary on A1A, South Hutchinson Island.
  • Thursday, Dec. 20: Florida Mammals - Eleven mammalian orders are represented in Florida. Capt. Legé will introduce you to the mammals of Florida and their wide and adaptive variety of sizes, shapes and functions.
