November 14, 2007 - Volunteers Needed for Tax Season
FORT PIERCE - The Treasure Coast Community Action Agency, in conjunction with AARP and VITA, the nation's largest free volunteer-run tax assistance and preparation service, is seeking volunteers to assist in tax assistance and preparation and to become leadership coordinators. Volunteers of all ages and backgrounds are welcome.Volunteers receive free tax training and help customers at local tax sites. Leadership positions coordinate program delivery by volunteers at sites at the local, state, or regional level or manage specific program activities such as technology, training, administration or communication.

St. Lucie County's Community Services Department is the lead agency for Treasure Coast Community Action Agency (TCCAA), whose mission is to partner with other human services organizations, the private sector and citizens to offer programs and services that build self-reliant individuals, families and communities. The Treasure Coast Community Action Agency Advisory Board consists of three members from Okeechobee, Martin and St. Lucie counties along with staff members and meets on a quarterly basis to oversee the programs and budget for the tri-county area served.
This is the first year that TCCAA is collaborating with the free tax assistance program, provided to low- and middle-income individuals. Additional programs through the TCCAA provide a wide range of services to assist low-income people in attaining the skills knowledge and the motivation necessary to achieve self sufficiency.
