March 9, 2005 - Parks and Recreation Events for Spring and Summer 2005
The Recreation Division of the St. Lucie County Parks and Recreation Department will host several fun events for children and adults this spring. Those events include:· Lakewood Park Co-Ed Softball begins March 22; games are Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:30 and 7:30 p.m., cost is $20 per player or $30 per couple.
· 2nd Annual "Touch-A-Truck" Program; March 29 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Maravilla Park on Oleander Avenue in Fort Pierce; Free; Program is for children and parents to touch, explore and experience different types of transportation on display including police, fire, military and County vehicles.
· Pee Wee Golf Program; April 2 from 9-10 a.m.; Fairwinds Golf Course in Fort Pierce; Cost is $40 for the 6 week program; Program is designed to teach children (ages 3-6) the basics of golf.
· Pitch, Hit & Run; April 30 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.; Lawnwood Stadium Softball Field 1; Open to boys and girls ages 7-14; Free; Pitch, Hit & Run is the Official Skills Competition of Major League Baseball. This program is designed to provide children with an opportunity to compete in core baseball skills. Competitors are divided into four age groups: 7-8, 9-10, 11-12 and 13-14 and each child has the chance to advance through the four levels of competition to the national finals at the 2005 Major League Baseball All-Star Game.
· Hershey's National Track and Field Local Competition; May 20 at 6:30 p.m.; Lawnwood Stadium Track in Fort Pierce; Registration cost is $5 and includes a free t-shirt; Events include: 50-meter dash, 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash, 400-meter dash, 4x100 meter relay, standing long jump and softball throw.
· American Junior Summer Soccer Camp; June 20-24 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.; Lawnwood Stadium in Fort Pierce; Registration fee is $160 for whole day and $80 for half day, cost includes free t-shirt with paid registration; Open to children ages 8-18; Camp provides skill development and tactical training.
