April 26, 2005 - "Call to Artists" Announced for Treasure Coast Connector Bus Bench Designs

The St. Lucie County Cultural Affairs Council and Community Services Department announce a "Call To Artists" for the U.S. 1 Treasure Coast Connector Transit Stops bench designs. Local mosaic artist, Anita Prentice, will recreate the bench designs into beautiful works of functional art for the bus benches. Jody Bonet, Transit Manager for the County, envisions the benches attracting new riders to the system by having an eye-catching area in which to wait for the buses.

Artists are invited to submit up to five designs for the back and front of the concrete benches. The seats will have a sun design matching the logo on the Treasure Coast Connector buses. Information on the bench dimensions and a Connector bus route map can be picked up at the Cultural Affairs Council office, located at 600 North Indian River Drive, or at the Community Services office at 437 North 7th Street, both in Fort Pierce or online at the County's website under Community Services (http://www.co.st-lucie.fl.us/). A small honorarium will be paid to the winning artists. Artists must submit their designs appropriate for mosaic media by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, May 31 to the Cultural Affairs Council office.
