April 27, 2005 - Fort Pierce Emergency Beach Restoration Project Set to Begin

The St. Lucie County Erosion District Board and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will begin work on the Fort Pierce Emergency Beach Restoration Project in May. U.S. Army Corps' Colonel Robert M. Carpenter will join the Erosion Districts Board on Thursday, May 12 at 10 a.m. at the Fort Pierce Jetty Park to commemorate the project.

The $2.9 million project is federally, state and county-funded and will be complete by May 30, 2005. The contractor, Weeks Marine, Inc., will place approximately 500,000 cubic yards of sand immediately south of the Fort Pierce Inlet for about 1.3 miles.
