May 23, 2005 - SLCTV Offers New Shows, Worldwide Access via the Internet
In an effort to keep the public more informed, St. Lucie County's Media Relations Department is offering two new shows and broadcasting SLCTV live via the Internet.St. Lucie County's government access channel, which airs Board of County Commission meetings and workshops, can now be seen on the Internet at www.stlucieco.gov/slctv. The new website allows people to view a live video stream of what is currently playing on SLCTV. The website also offers "Video on Demand," giving residents the ability to watch previously aired meetings and workshops. Using Windows Media Player, residents are able to watch recently aired meetings in their entirety or fast-forward and rewind specific parts. "Video on Demand" currently offers the May 17 Board of County Commission meeting and the May 18 Treasure Coast Regional Planning Council workshop regarding the North County Charrette.
"The new website allows those who do not subscribe to Comcast cable or live outside the viewing area to still keep up with what’s happing in St. Lucie County government," said Technical Operations Manager Shane DeWitt.
The Media Relations Department is also premiering two new shows: "Inside St. Lucie" and "Writers Block." Produced by the Media Relations staff, "Inside St. Lucie" is a 30-minute, monthly news program that answers the public's questions about St. Lucie County government. The June edition answers questions about St. Lucie County permitting process and reveals the details behind the July 2 Centennial Celebration. "Inside St. Lucie" airs Sundays at 5 p.m., Mondays at 8 p.m., Wednesdays at noon, Thursdays at 8 a.m. and Saturdays at midnight - unless pre-empted by a Board of County Commissioner meeting or workshop.
In cooperation with St. Lucie County Libraries, "Writers Block" is a new literary show featuring published authors who will speak about their latest book and answer questions from a studio audience. The first edition of "Writers Block" highlights author Valerie Boyd ("Wrapped in Rainbows"), who was the keynote speaker at ZoraFest! at Lincoln Park Academy. "Writers Block" airs Sundays at 7 p.m.; Tuesdays at midnight, Thursdays at 9 p.m., Fridays at noon and Saturdays at 8 a.m. - unless pre-empted by a Board of County Commissioner meeting or workshop.
Also in other developments, the County Media Relations Department has recently installed special fiber links with Indian River County, so that residents in both counties can watch the joint meeting between the St. Lucie County and Indian River County Commissioners live on Comcast cable Wednesday, May 25 at 9 a.m. The link will also allow the two counties to broadcast future joint commission meetings or special emergency information to residents in St. Lucie and Indian River counties.
In addition to the new Internet website, SLCTV can be seen on Comcast Cable channel 21 and Adelphia Cable channel 20 inside the City of Fort Pierce and in the unincorporated areas of St. Lucie County.
