March 24, 2006 - April Events at the Library

The St. Lucie County Library System has scheduled several special events in April.

Trash to Garden Treasure: The St. Lucie County Master Gardeners will present "Trash to Garden Treasure," a unique approach to turning garden refuse into practical and interesting garden supplies and art. Native Florida Plants Presentation: The St. Lucie County Master Gardeners will host a presentation on "Native Plants" giving participants information and guidance on keeping their yard and gardens "all Florida native." This session addresses the attributes and benefits of using native plants in the landscape. Orchids Presentation: The St. Lucie County Master Gardeners will host a session on Orchids providing information and guidance on how to care for and enjoy orchids. April 19 at 1:30 p.m.; free; call (772) 462-2787 for more information.

Stormscaping: The St. Lucie County Master Gardeners will present a Stormscaping program providing information and guidance on how to reduce wind and storm damage. With hurricane season upon us, a must see program. April 26 at 1:30 p.m., free. For more information, call (772) 462-2787.

"What's Your Story?" An Oral History Project: Everyone has a story to tell. Select a story from your family history and share your recollections with WQCS 88.9 FM radio station at their mobile recording studio on: April 10-14 at the Morningside Branch Library and May 1-5 at Lakewood Park Branch Library. Call Janie Gould to schedule an appointment at (772) 462-7822. Participants will receive a CD of their story and will be notified of an air time. Look for the WQCS studio van outside the library.

Pawtograph Party: Waggin' Tales, St. Lucie County Library's newest reading program, will celebrate its first birthday on April 8 at the Morningside Branch Library, located at 2410 S.E. Morningside Blvd in Port St. Lucie and on April 15 at the Fort Pierce Branch Library, located at 101 Melody Lane in Downtown Fort Pierce from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Participants should bring their favorite book and select a Waggin' Buddy to sign it with their paw print. The events will feature prizes, refreshments and a raffle as well as the Waggin' Tales canine buddies. For more information call (772) 462-2199.

Classes for Seniors: The St. Lucie County Fire District and the Lakewood Park Branch Library will present three free programs: Home Fire Safety on April 12, Healthy Heart Living on April 19 and Fall Safety on April 26. All events will take place at the Lakewood Park Branch Library, 7605 Santa Barbara Drive in Fort Pierce, at 9:30 a.m. Refreshments and a free gift to all participants.
