Thursday, October 25, 2012 - St. Lucie County Issues Beach Advisory Due To Hurricane Sandy

St. Lucie County’s Public Safety and Communications Department is urging residents and visitors to avoid beach and marine activities throughout the weekend due to Hurricane Sandy.

Hurricane Sandy is expected to pass offshore of St. Lucie County later today and into Friday, Oct. 26. However, tropical storm force effects could be felt along the Treasure Coast throughout the weekend into Sunday, Oct. 28.

All residents and visitors are asked to stay out of the water throughout the weekend, until Hurricane Sandy passes. Officials are expecting rough seas and heavy surf with breaking waves from six to 10 feet throughout the weekend. The potential for hazardous rip currents is also extremely high.

As always, residents are urged to monitor weather and news reports, as conditions and the projected path of Hurricane Sandy could change.
