Thursday, June 14, 2012 - Summer Camping/Kayaking Returns To The Savannas Recreation AreaSt. Lucie County’s Parks, Recreation and Facilities Department announces that after a three-year hiatus, summer camping is once again available at the Savannas Recreation Area on Midway Road on a trial basis.
This 550-acre preserve offers RV and tent camping, kayak/canoe rentals, fishing, hiking trails through natural habitat, playground, restrooms and a large covered pavilion on Palm Island, which is perfect for parties and family reunions. The Savannas Trading Post office is now open for camping and kayak rentals Friday through Sunday from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. through Sept. 30. If successful, the park may continue to keep camping open through the summer months.
There are five different types of camping available at the Savannas including: primitive, unimproved (no electricity), improved (electric and water), full-improved (electric, water and sewage hookup) and group. Amenities include: hot and cold showers, water fill up station, laundry facilities, public telephones and more.

Full operating hours for camping and kayak rentals at the Savannas Recreation Area will resume on Oct. 1. The Savannas Recreation Area is located at 1400 Midway Road, Fort Pierce.
