Thursday, April 26, 2012 - Tourist Development Council Celebrates National Tourism WeekThe St. Lucie County Tourist Development Council (TDC) is joining other cities, states and businesses nationwide in the annual salute to travel and tourism in America, May 5 through May 13, 2012.
National Travel and Tourism Week is (NTTW) a collective effort to promote the power of travel through customized events in communities nationwide. The goal is to enhance the country’s economy, security and perception, and to recognize the cultural and social benefits created by travel and tourism.
The St. Lucie County Board of County Commissioners, the City of Fort Pierce and the City of Port St. Lucie will each issue a proclamation at upcoming meetings recognizing NTTW. In addition, the St. Lucie County Tourist Development Council, the Lucie County Hotel & Lodging Association (SLC HLA) and the St. Lucie County Chamber of Commerce’s Tourism Committee will partner together to host a variety of activities throughout the week to promote the importance of tourism in the community. The week’s activities include:
Mid-April – May 1, 2012 / St. Lucie County Chamber of Commerce Tourism Committee has partnered with Scripps Treasure Coast Newspapers, the area’s leading media company, to organize and promote a local tourism photo contest. Prizes will be awarded in the following photo categories: Best Day Ever!, Great Family Adventure, Best Kept Secret, and Wildlife, with an overall Best Photo award also being given, as well as a Reader's Choice award.
May 1, 2012 / St. Lucie County Tourism Coordinator, Charlotte Lombard will be the guest speaker at the monthly Economic Development Council Member Meeting Luncheon to discuss the economic impacts and importance of tourism in St. Lucie County and how these impacts benefit the County’s local and prospective companies. Noon – 1 p.m., Schreiber Conference Center, Indian River State College, 500 NW California Blvd., Port St. Lucie.
May 4, 2012 / St. Lucie County Hotel & Lodging Association (SLC HLA) will host its annual Tourism Week Meeting at the Homewood Suites by Hilton in Port St.Lucie. The SLC HLA will present its 3rd Annual Employee of the Year award winners and two $500.00 scholarships to IRSC students interested in the Hospitality Industry. Employee of the Year winners will be awarded to a Heart of the House & Front of the House Team Members. Winners are presented with a personalized plaque and other exciting benefits.
May 11, 2012 / St. Lucie County Chamber of Commerce Tourism Committee will host a booth at the annual Treasure Coast Business Expo at the Port St. Lucie Civic Center. Various attractions and tourism-related businesses will be sharing all the wonderful things we have to do in the area and encouraging locals to get out and experience what we have to do in St. Lucie County. 8 a.m. – 4 p.m., Port St. Lucie Civic Center, 9221 SE Civic Center Place, Port St. Lucie.
May 12, 2012 / St. Lucie County Tourism Staff will host a booth at the weekly Downtown Fort Pierce Farmers Market promoting tourism in our area. The booth will educate residents about the importance of tourism in St. Lucie County and provide information on all there is to do in our area. Representatives will also give away “staycation” prizes that include one and two night stays to local hotels and vouchers for local activities and access to attractions. 8 a.m. - noon, Fort Pierce Marina Square, Downtown Fort Pierce.
The Annual National Travel and Tourism Week will be celebrated May 5 through May 13, 2012.
