Blind Creek - 409 acres

A very good example of an extensive and secluded beach dune system.  Several access areas are available that lead to the beach or Indian River Lagoon.

Size: 409 acres
Habitat: Primarily Mangrove forest with approximately 1 mile beach dune system along the Atlantic Ocean and 1 mile along the Indian River lagoon. 
Trails: One mile self guiding interpretive trail winds through the hammock identifying the most common species. (mulched)
Other Improvements: Unimproved boat launch, fishing pier, observation decks, observation tower, and beach access.
Commonly Seen Wildlife: Pelicans, sandpipers, plovers, and seagulls.  An important nesting area for Green and Loggerhead sea turtles.
Location: 5460 South Ocean Drive, South Hutchinson Island.  Several access points are located north of the St. Lucie Nuclear power plant.
Management: St. Lucie County Mosquito Control District under lease from the State of Florida and South Florida Water Management District.
Historical Interest: Remnants of W.W. II gun emplacements are visible at low tide along the beach.  These guns were placed at this location to protect against the threat of U-Boats sinking maritime vessels.
Note: Much of the site has undergone extensive exotic restoration measures.
