Expansion and Relocation

Torrey PinesIn September 2006, Torrey Pines Institute for Molecular Studies announced an expansion commitment to St. Lucie County.  This commitment has spearheaded the development of St. Lucie County's Life Science Cluster.  As a result, additional life science companies have shown tremendous interest in St. Lucie County.  In 2007, Mann Research Center closed on a 22-acre parcel where it intends to build up to six buildings, which would include approximately 300,000 square feet of research and development facilities.  On January 8, 2008 the Economic Development Council of St. Lucie County announced that the Oregon Health & Science University would be establishing a local presence with the Vaccine and Gene Therapy Insitute (VGTI).  The recent success of recruiting the Vaccine and Gene Therapy Insitute, Mann Research Center and the headquarters for Torrey Pines Institute, has aided in making St. Lucie County the epicenter of the developing life science cluster in the State of Florida.  With Scripps Florida to the south in Palm Beach County and Burnham Institute to the northwest in Orange County, St. Lucie County will be the hub for life science companies.
